Second Half Carlos Vela Goal Gives LAFC a 1-1 Draw in Minnesota
September 13, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Los Angeles FC News Release
The Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) came from behind to earn a 1-1 tie against Minnesota United FC in Saint Paul on Tuesday night. LAFC's 19-8-4 record (61 points) is still the best in the Western Conference, and the Black & Gold can clinch the top seed in the West this week if Austin FC lose or draw to Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night.
LAFC fell behind just before the half when Brent Kallman scored for the Loons in the 45th minute giving the home team a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
Carlos Vela leveled the score with a signature left footed blast that found the back of the net from distance in the 64th minute.
LAFC returns home to face the Houston Dynamo on Sunday, Sept. 18 at 7:30 p.m. PT. (TV: KCOP 13, Estrella 62; Radio: 710 AM ESPN / ESPN LA app and 980 AM La Mera Mera). LAFC will celebrate Latin American Heritage Night presented by Estrella TV with special in-stadium events and performances, including a post-game firework show.
NEWS & NOTES
The tie puts LAFC in a position to clinch the Western Conference title this week, pending the result of the Austin FC vs Real Salt Lake game on Wednesday. A tie or RSL win will lock up LAFC's position atop the conference.
LAFC Captain Carlos Vela scored his ninth goal of the season.
Vela's second half goal was the league-leading 42nd second half goal for the Black & Gold.
LAFC's newest addition, Cristian Tello made his MLS debut on Tuesday, Sept. 13, entering the match in the 62nd minute.
