SeaWolves Take Series Opener in Manchester

The SeaWolves won their third game on the current road trip as they belted out 14 hits in a 6-3 victory of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
Erie jumped ahead in the top of the third inning against Fisher Cats starter Ryan Tepera. Luis Castillo led off with a walk and advanced to second on a Marcus Lemon groundout. Castillo scored on a Jamie Johnson double to straight away center for a 1-0 lead.
The 'Wolves added to their advantage in the fourth. Daniel Fields and James McCann connected on back-to-back singles to start the inning. The runners advanced into scoring position on a James Robbins groundout. With two outs, Castillo walked to load the bases for Lemon. Lemon and Johnson drew consecutive bases loaded walks to take a 3-0 lead.
The Fisher Cats got on the board in the bottom of the fourth against Erie starter Victor Larez. Clint Robinson and Brad Glen each walked with one out. Adam Loewen singled home Robinson making it 3-1.
In the fifth, Tommy Manzella and Kevin Pillar each singled to start the inning and Larez was lifted in favor of Will Startup. Startup walked Ryan Schimpf, loading the bases for A.J. Jimerez. Jimenez hit into a double play, scoring Manzella, cutting the Erie lead down to a run.
The clubs exchanged runs in the sixth. In the top of the sixth, Johnson singled with two outs and was tripled home by Eugenio Suarez making it 4-2. In the last of the inning, Glenn led off with a double and with one out, moved to third on an error. He scored on a fielders choice making it 4-3.
The 'Wolves added a pair of key insurance runs in the top of the eighth against reliever Randy Boone. Castillo led off with a single to right. Lemon followed and laid down a perfect bunt down the third base line. On the play, Manzella fielded and threw the ball down the right field line allowing Castillo to score from first and Lemon to go all the way to third. Lemon scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-3.
Blaine Hardy extended his scoreless innings stretch working the seventh and eighth with no damage. He has not allowed a run since May 23 (seven outings, 13.2 IP).
Justin Souza earned his 13th save working a perfect ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts.
Erie and New Hampshire meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. LHP Kyle Lobstein (5-4, 3.25 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Sean Nolin (3-1, 2.87 ERA).
