New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Last weekend in Erie, Pa., the Fisher Cats were rude guests at Jerry Uht Park, taking three straight games to claim their first-ever sweep over the Detroit Tigers affiliate. On Friday night, Erie (35-30) returned the favor by beating the Fisher Cats (32-35), 6-3, in the opener of their three-game series in Manchester.

Erie opened the scoring netting a run in the third and two in the fourth against Ryan Tepera (L; 6-5), building a 3-0 lead before the Fisher Cats could answer. In the bottom of the fourth, it was Adam Loewen that brought home New Hampshire's first run on a single to right field.

The Fisher Cats added another run against Erie starter Victor Larez (ND) in the fourth. With the bases loaded, A.J. Jimenez grounded into a double play to make it a 3-2 game in Erie's favor.

The teams traded runs in the sixth with Erie plating their fourth run against Tyson Brummett. Brian Van Kirk picked up an RBI by hitting into a force out to make it a one-run game again at 4-3.

It stayed that way until the top of the eighth when Erie grabbed two more runs, both unearned, against reliever Randy Boone. Not only did it give Erie the insurance it needed, but the rally ended Boone's scoreless streak at 12.2 innings.

Tepera took the loss allowing three runs on eight hits, four walks, and five strikeouts. Will Startup (2-1) earned the victory for Erie with two innings of work, surrendering an unearned run.

The teams now meet up for the middle game of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. The game features Atlas Fireworks and fans can win prizes by playing USA Subs Baseball Bingo. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, at the Fisher Cats ticket office, and by calling (603) 641-2005.

Saturday's pitching match-up features a couple of southpaws. Sean Nolin (3-1, 2.87) starts for the Fisher Cats against Erie's Kyle Lobstein (5-4, 3.25). Radio coverage of the game begins at 6:45 p.m. with Tom Gauthier and Dick Lutsk on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.nhfishercats.com.
