SeaWolves Slam Squirrels 14-3

The SeaWolves belted out a season-high 18 hits in a 14-3 win over the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park. The 11-run win was Erie's largest margin of victory of the season.

The Squirrels struck first in the top of the third inning against Erie starter L.J. Gagnier. With one out, Sharlon Schoop and Wendell Fairley each singled. Francisco Peguero doubled home Schoop for a 1-0 lead.

In the fourth, the Squirrels added to the lead against Erie reliever Jared Gayhart. Juan Perez tripled home Johnny Monnell and Schoop singled home Perez for a 3-0 Richmond edge.

The SeaWolves responded in the bottom of the fourth against Richmond starter Clayton Tanner. Ben Guez singled and Rawley Bishop reached on an error putting two on with no outs. Francisco Martinez single home Guez to make it 3-1. With one out, Audy Ciriaco tripled home both Bishop and Martinez, tying the game 3-3. After Justin Henry was hit by a pitch, Ciriaco scored on a John Murrian fielder's choice, giving Erie a 4-3 lead.

In the fifth, Guez led off and was hit by a pitch. Bishop singled putting two on for Martinez who singled home Guez for a 5-3 lead. Bryan Pounds cleared the bases with a double for a 7-3 Erie lead.

In the seventh, the SeaWolves put the game out of reach against the Richmond bullpen. Pounds led off and reached on an error and Ciriaco followed with a base knock. Murrian doubled home Pounds for Erie's eighth run. With two outs, Brandon Douglas singled home Ciriaco and Murrian for a 10-3 edge.

Erie added more insurance runs in the eighth. Bishop and Martinez each singled and pinch-hitter Michael Bertram walked loading the bases. Ciriaco singled home Bishop, Henry drew a bases loaded walk, Murrian singled and Jamie Johnson hit a sacrifice fly plating four additional runs giving the 'Wolves a 14-3 advantage.

Jared Gayhart (3-0) earned the win after replacing Gagnier in the third with an injury. Gayhart allowed two runs on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts in 3.2 innings.

The SeaWolves wrap up the series with the Flying Squirrels on Wednesday afternoon.12:05 First Pitch. RHP Brooks Brown (2-5, 6.42 ERA) takes the mound for the 'Wolves against RHP Justin Fitzgerald (7-5, 3.34 ERA).
