Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves shut out the Bowie Baysox 5-0 in a rain-shortened game on Friday night at Prince George's Stadium. The win was the SeaWolves fourth straight and the team is now a season-high seven games above .500.
The SeaWolves jumped ahead in the top of the first inning against Baysox starter Garrett Stallings when Kerry Carpenter blasted a solo home run with two outs for a 1-0 lead. The home run for Carpenter was his 14th and it extended his hitting streak to nine straight games.
Erie extended the lead in the second when Gage Workman belted a one-out, solo home run for a 2-0 lead. The home run for Workman was his fifth and second of the series against the Baysox.
Stallings settled down and fired three scoreless frames before the SeaWolves offense got back to work in the top of the sixth. Dylan Rosa extended his hitting streak to five straight games with a single to center. Andrew Navigato doubled, putting runners on second and third for Carpenter. Carpenter uncorked his second home run of the game and the three-run blast made it 5-0 Erie. It was also Carpenters second consecutive three-hit game.
Erie starter Chance Kirby gave up a leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning to Adam Hall. Hall stole third and the Baysox had a man at third base with no one out. Kirby battled out of the jam without allowing a run as he went on to set down the next 11 hitters following the double.
Kirby allowed a pair of baserunners in the fifth inning and got through without allowing a run striking out the final two batters he faced.
Kirby (4-1) earned the win tossing five shutout innings, allowing two hits with no walks and five strikeouts.
Stallings (2-3) took the loss for Bowie allowing five runs on eight hits with no walks and five strikeouts in five-plus innings.
