ERIE 2-5-0

The SeaWolves, in front of a buck night crowd of 5,240 fans, dropped the opener of a three-game series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels 3-2 on Monday night at Jerry Uht Park.

The Flying Squirrels delivered the game's opening punch in the second inning as Wes Hodges got a solo home run into left-center, giving Richmond a 1-0 lead.

The Squirrels added onto their lead in the third with Sharlon Schoop hitting a solo home run into left, extending the lead 2-0.

Richmond continued its strong play in the fourth inning with Roger Kieschnick leading off with a ground rule double. After stealing third, he came home to score on a Hodges RBI single, allowing the Flying Squirrels to go up 3-0.

The SeaWolves answered in the bottom of the fifth inning. Audy Ciriaco reached base on a single and moved to third on a Deik Scram base knock. With Bryan Holaday at bat, a wild pitch allowed Ciriaco to come home to score, making the score 3-1.

Erie continued to answer the call in the eighth inning with Ciriaco leading off with a base hit. He advanced to third a Scram ground rule double, and came home to score on a Jaime Johnson sacrifice fly. However, Erie advanced no further as Richmond's bullpen held on to preserve the victory.

SeaWolves starter Jacob Turner (3-5) was the tough luck loser equaling a season-high with eight innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with a walk and eight strikeouts.
