Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves came up empty on Saturday night against the Reading Fightin Phils in a historic manner. Four Fightins pitchers combined to no hit Erie in a 3-0 game. It was the first time Erie had been no hit since 2005.
Brad Bass got the call for Erie to make his second start of the season. Bass started the night with seven straight outs, but had the stretch snapped when Luke Miller doubled in the third inning. Daniel Brito scorched his third home run of the season over the right field netting to plate the pair.
After four innings of work, Bass handed it over to Ruben Garcia out of the bullpen. Garcia spun three scoreless innings and only allowed one baserunner. Reading expanded their lead in the eighth inning when Miller homered to right field off of Billy Lescher.
Reading got the best start of the season from Francisco Morales. Despite opening the season with an 0-7 record and a 9.95 ERA, Morales kept Erie from collecting a hit all night. The 'Wolves managed only three baserunners through a pair of walks and an error, but Morales spun six innings of hitless ball before being lifted.
Erie loaded the bases on three walks from Zach Warren in the seventh inning, but still could not manufacture a run or a hit. Kyle Dohy took over for Reading after the three walks, and kept the no hitter alive through the eighth inning.
Brian Marconi finished the no-no with an empty ninth inning. It was the first no hitter for Reading since 2007.
Erie and Reading conclude their six game set on Sunday to cap the holiday weekend. It will be the final night of postgame fireworks at UPMC Park for the weekend, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
