Indianapolis Indians News Release

TOLEDO, OHIO - Gorkys Hernandez smashed a single up the middle to give the Indianapolis Indians a 3-2 lead as part of a four-run fifth inning, and the offense never looked back in a 9-3 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens on Thursday evening. The Tribe tallied 14 hits, including two home runs, in the series-opening victory. After scoring just two runs in their first three games of the season earlier this month, the Indians have scored 21 runs in their last three.

Deibinson Romero hit his fourth home run of the season to open the fourth, but the Indians were trailing 2-1 when Hernandez came through with his big hit. The Tribe received run-scoring singles from Alen Hanson and Pedro Florimon to finish the sixth inning in front 5-2.

The Indians extended their lead in the eighth, as Tony Sanchez followed a Steve Lombardozzi run-producing single with a two-run homer off of the scoreboard in left field. The Mud Hens (7-6) pushed a run across in the ninth, but the deficit was too great to overcome as the Tribe posted its third win in their last four tries.

Casey Sadler (1-0) hurled seven innings and conceded just two runs to earn the victory for Indianapolis. His counterpart, Tim Melville (0-2), allowed four runs and was handed the loss. The win moves Indianapolis back to .500 (7-7) as it approaches the mid-point of an 11-day road trip through the International League West division.
