Sea Dogs Win in Shootout Over Titan

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The Saint John Sea Dogs continued their dominance on home ice with a 4-3 shootout win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

Jonathan Huberdeau, Mike Thomas and Alexandre Beauregard scored in regulation time for the Sea Dogs while Nathan Beaulieu and Steven Anthony added goals in the shootout.

Jacob DeSerres, fresh off being named the league's second star for the month ttp:// ee-stars-of-the-month, made 20 saves in regulation, and allowed just one of six shootout attempts

Zach O'Brien had a goal and an assist for the Titan. Jeremie Malouin and David Gilbert had the other Acadie-Bathurst goals, while Gabriel Levesque scored in the shootout. Robert Steeves made 34 saves in regulation and four more in the shootout.

With the win, Saint John improves to 32-5-0-2, including a 19-0-0-1 mark at Harbour Station. The Titan fell to 24-14-0-1

O'Brien opened the scoring at 11:07 of the first period with an unassisted marker, his 13th goal of the year.

Huberdeau responded on a power play at 5:25 of the second period. Huberdeau tucked in a Gretzky-like bank shot from behind the net after a point shot from Nathan Beaulieu. The goal was Huberdeau's 26th, moving him into a tie for the team lead with Zack Phillips, who got the other assist.

Less than two minutes later, Malouin took advantage of a Saint John turnover and beat DeSerres for his sixth of the season to make it 2-1 at 7:20 of the second. Daniel Tanel and O'Brien picked up the assists.

Thomas gave the team a big lift when he tied the score at 3:17 of the third period. Normally known for his toughness, Thomas delivered a deke that beat Steeves for what might be the most memorable goal in the captain's career. Spencer MacDonald and Stephen MacAulay had the assists on the goal, the 10thof the year for Thomas.

Shortly after the Thomas goal, Danick Gauthier laid a huge hit, then dropped the gloves with Sebastien Payette.

After some sustained pressure down low by Michael Kirkpatrick and Stanislav Galiev, Galiev set up Beauregard to make it 3-2. The goal was Beauregard's first as a Sea Dog and fifth of the season overall.

But Gilbert came right back down and tied it with a shot that caught DeSerres out of position. Mario Kurali and Marc-Olivier Mimar picked up the assists on the goal, Gilbert's 15th.

The Sea Dogs received a five-minute power play after Daniel Tanel was ejected for a hit from behind on Huberdeau. MacAulay had the best chance with the man advantage, cutting in off the right wing, but Steeves denied him with one of several spectacular saves.
