Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release
Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - On Tuesday night, the Lewiston MAINEiacs took the ice against one of their former divisional rivals, and proceeded to put together one of their best 60-minute efforts of the season. Lewiston busted out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play, and carried that through to a 7-0 whitewash of the Drummondville Voltigeurs in front of 1,385 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.
Drummondville came into the game with the top-ranked penalty kill in the QMJHL, but early on, the MAINEiacs showed that they weren't phased. On their first man advantage of the night, Etienne Brodeur slid a pass through the slot to Sam Carrier, who fired home a one-timer from the left circle at the 3:49 mark. Less than three minutes later, Lewiston went ahead by two, as Michael Chaput found Matt Bissonnette on the right side of the crease. Kirill Kabanov made the score 3-0, when he scored off of a pass by Bissonnette in the slot.
In the second period, the home team picked up right where they left off, as Francis Beauvillier needed just 1:54 to score off of a wraparound. The lead stayed at four through most of the middle frame, until the MAINEiacs exploded in the final three minutes. Michael Chaput lit the lamp with 2:57 remaining, Francis Beauvillier netted his second of the game with 1:58 left to go, and Etienne Brodeur completed the scoring with 0.4 seconds showing on the clock.
Neither team found the back of the cage in the third period, as Lewiston cruised to a 7-0 victory.
Matt Bissonnette (4), Olivier Dame-Malka (3), Bryce Milson, Francis Beauvillier, Etienne Brodeur, Michael Chaput, Cameron Critchlow, and Kirill Kabanov all had multiple point games for the MAINEiacs.
Nicholas Champion earned his first shutout as a MAINEiac, stopping all 19 shots he faced for his 21st win of the season. Guillaume Nadeau suffered the loss for Drummondville, allowing seven goals on 27 shots in two periods. Domenic Graham took over in the third, and was perfect on ten attempts.
The MAINEiacs will continue their five-game homestand on Friday night, when they play host to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies at 7:00.
