Game Night with Drummondville

January 4, 2011 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

First Meeting- On October 29th, the MAINEiacs and Voltigeurs met up in Drummondville, as Lewiston was concluding a four-game, nine-day road trip. Drummondville jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, and carried a 3-2 advantage into the second intermission. However, the third period belonged to the MAINEiacs, who scored three times in a span of 4:06 for a 5-4 victory.

Representing Their Country- During this time of year, all eyes focus toward the national tournaments, where both Lewiston and Drummondville had representation. The Voltigeurs' Sean Couturier represented Team Canada at the World Junior Championship, and has a chance to win a gold medal tomorrow night. Ondrej Palat of Drummondville represented the Czech Republic at the same tournament, while the MAINEiacs' Dillon Fournier and Christophe Lalonde both played for Team Quebec at the World Under-17 Challenge.

Special Teams at the Top- It should come as no surprise that once again, the Voltigeurs posses two of the best special teams units in the QMJHL. Drummondville's power play ranks fourth in the league at 27.4%, while their penalty kill is first at 83.8%. Meanwhile, Lewiston's power play ranks 12th in the league at 17.9%, while their penalty kill is sixth at 81.3%. The MAINEiacs' penalty kill is just 0.2% behind fourth ranked Saint John.

Welcome to Lewiston, Jonathan Parisien- Over the weekend, the MAINEiacs made a trade, acquiring defenseman Jonathan Parisien from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar for a fifth round pick in the 2011 QMJHL Entry Draft. Tonight, Parisien will look to make his debut for the home team, bringing a total of 11 points into the contest. The 19-year old is the second player (Bryce Milson was the first) that Lewiston has acquired during this trade period. On the other side of the ice, Drummondville has acquired one new face, bringing in defenseman Robert McEwan from Rouyn-Noranda. McEwan is scoreless in three games with the Voltigeurs.

Head-to-Head- Tonight marks the 30th all-time meeting between the MAINEiacs and Voltigeurs. Lewiston had a strong start to the all-time series, winning nine of the first 12 match-ups. However, Drummondville has been the dominant team lately, as they have won 14 of the last 17 contests, giving them a 17-12 edge overall. 14 of the previous 29 games have been played at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee, with each team winning seven times.

Who to Watch for- With Couturier and Palat both attending the World Junior Championship, forwards Jonathan Brunelle and Marc-Olivier Vachon have taken over the role of leading scorers on the Voltigeurs. Brunelle has 40 points in 40 games, while Vachon has 36 points in 38 points in his fourth season as the team's captain. Jean-Philippe Mathieu leads Drummondville with 27 points from the blueline, while Guillaume Nadeau has 17 wins between the pipes.
