CHARLOTTETOWN - The Saint John Sea Dogs acquired a second-round draft pick on the floor of the 2016 QMJHL Entry Draft, and used it to select highly-touted forward Shane Bowers.

Saint John obtained the 32nd overall selection from the Chicoutimi Sagueneens in exchange for a 2017 second-round selection and the conditional 2018 second-round pick acquired from Chicoutimi in a previous transaction.

The Sea Dogs then chose the Halifax-native Bowers.

Listed at 6'0" and 162 lbs., he registered 15 goals and 33 points in 56 games last season with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL). He was named to the USHL second all-star team. He also played five games for Canada Black at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

In 2014-15, Bowers was named the most valuable player of the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League (NSMMHL) after leading the league with 23 goals and 52 points in 34 games with Halifax McDonald's.

Bowers, who turns 17 in July, was one of the top-ranked players for the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft and was selected fourth overall by the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. Cape Breton obtained a compensatory draft pick after relinquishing his rights earlier this year.

The Sea Dogs would like to welcome Bowers to his new Saint John family.
