Sea Dogs Outlast Flying Squirrels 2-1 in Richmond

Richmond, Virginia - Led by strong pitching, the Portland Sea Dogs were able to hold on to the 2-1 victory against the Richmond Flying Squirrels at The Diamond on Saturday night. Portland improves to 30-38 on the season while Richmond drops to 39-29. Jake Thompson pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts extending his shutout streak to 10 games. He has not allowed a run in his last 16.1 innings.

Chris Murphy (4-5) was terrific for Portland in his 13th start of the year. He tossed 6.0 shutout innings allowing just one hit while walking three and striking out eight. Murphy lowers his ERA to 2.58.

In the top of the fourth inning, Hudson Potts blasted a two-out homer to left field, his seventh of the season, and the Sea Dogs were on the board, 1-0.

The Sea Dogs plated another run in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, Christian Koss singled to right field and then scored on an RBI double to left field by Potts, extending Portland's lead, 2-0.

Richmond scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. After Mike Gigliotti doubled off Portland reliever Caleb Simpson, he scored on a force out at second base and the Flying Squirrels were on the board, 2-1.

The Sea Dogs and Flying Squirrels will meet for the series finale tomorrow, June, 26th at 1:35pm at The Diamond. LHP Jay Groome (3-3, 3.67 ERA) will take the mound for Portland while Richmond will send LHP Kyle Harrison (1-1, 5.12 ERA) to the bump.

The Sea Dogs return home for a six-game series against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats beginning Tuesday, June 28th at 6pm. Tickets can be purchased online at www.seadogs.com or at the ticket office at Hadlock Field.
