Portland Sea Dogs News Release


The Portland Sea Dogs made several roster moves on Tuesday. Pitcher Phil Seibel was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket and pitcher Josh Stevens, the 2003 Sea Dogs Pitcher of the Year, was sent down to Portland from the Pawsox. Stevens was 1-0 with a 5.00 ERA in five appearances with Pawtucket.

Reliever Eric Glaser was activated from the disabled list. He had missed the last two weeks with a strained right shoulder.

FOURTH ANNUAL MOTHER'S DAY 5K ROAD RACE

The Portland Sea Dogs in conjunction with the Maine Track Club, Paradigm Windows, and Sportshoe Center will be hosting their fourth annual Mother's Day road race on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 9th at 9:30am. Proceeds from the event are to benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation. There will also be a Kid's Run beginning at 9:00am that is free of charge.

Slugger and his Mom lead the way on the flat 5K course which begins in front of the Portland Expo building, travels down Congress Street, turning down Stevens Avenue, and making a right onto Brighton Avenue back down Deering Avenue into Fitzpatrick Stadium. The race will then culminate inside Hadlock Field in front of the third base dugout.

The top overall Male and Female finishers will receive a trophy and a pair of 2004 Season Tickets for the remainder of the 2004 Sea Dogs season, and throw out the ceremonial first-pitch prior to the May 11th Sea Dogs game. The top three male and female finishers in each age group will also be presented with awards. All participants of the race will receive a complimentary ticket to attend a future Sea Dogs game, with the first 500 registrations receiving t-shirts.

Last year's race was extremely successful drawing more than 700 runners, this year an even larger field of runner's is expected to support a great cause and have fun at the same time. The race is open to the public. Walkers and wheelchair racers are welcome as well.

Registration is $12.00 in advance or $14.00 the day of the race. Chip timing will be used. The kids race is free. Registration will begin at 8:00am on May 9th at Hadlock Field. THIRD ANNUAL SLUGGER OPEN GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Portland Sea Dogs have teamed up with the Portland Partnership and Sable Oaks Golf Club to bring you the Third Annual "Slugger Open" on Monday May 24th at Sable Oaks Golf Club in South Portland.

The tournament will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude with a picnic and baseball game at Hadlock Field that evening. The fee for participating in the golf tournament includes a ticket to the game and picnic area for the evening when the Sea Dogs host the Binghamton Mets. Game time is 6:00 p.m. and gates will open at 4:30 p.m. Additional tickets can be purchased for family and friends by calling 874-9300.

All proceeds from the tournament benefit the Portland Partnership. The Portland Partnership is committed to building strong family and community support for learning in the Portland Public Schools.
