A JOYOUS RETURN TO HADLOCK: The Portland Sea Dogs wrapped up their eight game road trip with a 5-3 record...Portland took two of three in their first stop in New Hampshire...Yesterday, Portland completed the series win against Binghamton, taking three of five from NYSEG Stadium...The âDogs now return home for an 8-game stand...Portland has New Hampshire for three and Connecticut for five from Hadlock Field.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Jeff Natale singled home Jed Lowrie with the winning run in the top of the 11th, and the Sea Dogs slipped past the Binghamton Mets 7-6. Kyle Jackson (4-6) earned the victory for Portland as he fired two scoreless innings out of the bullpen, striking out four in the process. The winning runs were on base for the Mets in the bottom of the 11th, however Jackson fanned Caleb Stewart to seal the victory. Jackson managed to strike out the side in the final frame. Chad Spann gave the Sea Dogs a 3-1 lead in the 5th, as he singled home Bubba Bell and Jeff Corsaletti. The Dogs would add one more in the frame, and an additional run in the 6th to take a four run lead. In the bottom of the 7th, the Mets took a 6-5 lead as they plated five off of Dogs reliever Lincoln Holdzkom. This set up a dramatic top of the 9th - as Spann tied the game at 6-6 with a one-out solo home run. On the swing, Spann managed to break his bat.
HOLDZKOM GIVES EM UP...IN BUNCHES OF 5!: Lincoln Holdzkom gave up 5 runs in an inning of work yesterday...It is the second time Holdzkom has given up 5 runs this season...Holdzkom last allowed 5 runs on June 16th against Akron...Prior to his setback yesterday, the righty had only allowed 1 run over his last ten appearances.
LOOKS LIKE A MISMATCH...BUT IT'S NOT: If you take a peak at the stats, it looks like the Sea Dogs have dominated the Fisher Cats this year...Portland is hitting at a .298 clip against New Hampshire this year, and have a team ERA of 4.34...The Cats are hitting only .245 against Portland, and have a team ERA of 5.39...However, Portland is only 11-10 against NH this year.
