NEWS AND NOTES

'DOGS VS. FIGHTINS (SERIES 0-0) : The Sea Dogs open up their 22nd season in Portland, hosting the Reading Fightin Phils in the opener of a four-game series...Tonight marks the first of 21 meetings between the two teams this season...Portland won 14 of 22 from Reading in 2014, but went 6-5 against the Phils at Hadlock Field...The Sea Dogs are coming off an historic season, winning a franchise-record 88 games, but fell to the Binghamton Mets in the Eastern Division Championship Series in five games.

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP : Ironically Luis Diaz made the final start of the 2014 season, and gets the ball for Portland in the season opener...Diaz, who turned 23 today, is making his first career start against Reading...Last year, the righty went a combined 9 -7, 3.55 ERA (57 ER/144.2 IP) between the Sea Dogs and Salem...Reading's Aaron Nola is ranked the #2 Prospect in the Phillies system according to Baseball America...Nola was the 7th overall pick in the 2014 draft, and went a combined 4-3, 2.93 ERA (18 ER/55.1 IP) in 12 games/11 starts between High-A Clearwater and Reading (2-0, 2.63 ERA in 5 starts).
