NEWS AND NOTES

SOX AND YANKEES MEET IN DOUBLE-A : The Sea Dogs open up a three-game series against the Trenton Thunder on Monday night at Arm & Hammer Park...The entire Eastern Division split their opening four-game series to begin the season...Portland and Trenton were postponed on the final day of the 2013 regular season and split their season series at 10 games apiece...The Thunder won the 2013 Eastern League Championship, sweeping the Harrisburg Senators in three games.

CLOSE AGAIN : Portland dropped the final two games of the series, both by one run, losing 4-3 on Sunday afternoon to the Fightin Phils at First Energy Stadium...Reading scored all four runs in the second inning off losing pitcher RHP Mike Augliera...Chris Serritella knocked in the first run with single and Carlos Alonso launched a three-run homer...Matt Spring finished 2-for-3 with 2 RBI in his first game of the season...Perci Garner tossed six innings on five hits and three runs to earn the win...Closer Kenny Giles hit 101 mph, earning the save by fanning the side in the ninth.
