NEWS AND NOTES
SEEKING NUMBER ONE: The Portland Sea Dogs have dropped the first two games of their opening series of the season...On Saturday afternoon, RHP Tanner Houck makes his Double-A debut against the Reading Fightin Phils (Phillies affiliate)...Houck is ranked by Baseball America as Boston's #7 prospect...The two teams conclude the four-game series on Sunday afternoon...The Sea Dogs are still home on Monday night, entertaining the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets affiliate).
REFORMATING THE LEAGUE: During the off-season, the Eastern League announced a change to their playoff format...This year, the EL will consist of a split-season, with the first half ending on June 18th, the 76th day of the regular season...The second half begins the following day... Under the new rule, the first-place team from each division during both the first and second halves of the season will qualify for postseason play.
