Bats Cold as RubberDucks Fall 2-0
Published on April 6, 2019 under Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron starter Sean Brady pitched seven solid innings, but the RubberDucks' bats managed only four singles against Altoona Curve pitching in a 2-0 loss on Saturday at Canal Park.
Turning Point
After the first two Altoona hitters were retired in the first inning, Bligh Madris and Jerrick Suiter each singled to put runners on the corners. Hunter Owen then singled in Madris and the Curve took a 1-0 first-inning lead it would hold on to for the length of the game.
Mound Presence
Brady allowed two runs on four hits, walking two and striking out five. After the first inning, he allowed only one more hit. Unfortunately for Akron, it was a fifth-inning, two-out single RBI single by Robbie Glendinning, who slapped it past RubberDucks' first baseman Wilson Garcia, scoring Mitchell Tolman who walked to open the frame. That completed the scoring and made it 2-0 Altoona. Rob Kaminsky made his first appearance of 2019 with two scoreless innings with two walks and a strikeout. Cam Vieaux started for Altoona and went 4.2 innings (2 H, 1 BB, 2 K) before leaving for Beau Sulser in the fifth.
Duck Tales
Akron's up-and-down offensive start to the season continued with a four-hit game coming after Friday's 12-hit outing and Thursday's two-hit game. On Saturday, Andruw Monasterio was the lone Duck with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4. Garcia went 1-for-3 and Connor Marabell had an infield hit in the ninth inning. The only inning Akron had multiple runners on base and a runner in scoring position came in the seventh, but with runners on second and first with one out, Curve relief pitcher Beau Sulser struck out Ka'ai Tom and got Logan Ice to pop out to short.
