
Sea Dogs Fall 7-2 to Fightin Phils

Reading, Pennsylvania - Pedro Castellanos collected his team-leading 13th multi-hit game of 2022 as the Portland Sea Dogs (25-35) dropped the third game of a six-game series, 7-2 to the Reading Fightin Phils (26-34) on Thursday at FirstEngery Stadium.
Portland started the scoring in the top of the third inning with Reading reliever Bubby Rossman on the mound. Nick Sogard singled with one out and David Hamilton followed with a base hit of his own, moving Sogard to third. Hamilton stole second base, and on the throw down, Sogard came in to score and gave the Sea Dogs a 1-0 lead. With Hamilton still on second, Castellanos connected for the third single of the inning, driving in Hamilton, increasing Portland's lead to 2-0.
The Fightin Phils put their first runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning against Sea Dogs starter Brian Van Belle. Vito Friscia led off the inning with a base hit to left. Two outs later, Logan O'Hoppe extended the inning with a single, putting runners on first and second. Josh Ockimey stepped up to the plate and belted a three-run homer, giving Reading a 3-2 lead.
Reading added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with Portland reliever Jacob Wallace on the bump. Friscia led off with a walk. With a runner on first, Jack Conley muscled a two-run blast to left field, extending the Fightin Phils lead to 5-2.
Two more runs came around to score for the Fightin Phils in the bottom of the seventh inning against Sea Dogs reliever Dylan Spacke. Jonathan Guzman singled, Chris Sharpe walked, and Sal Gozzo was hit by a pitch to load the bases. One out later, Conley delivered with a two-run single, increasing their lead to 7-2. Portland could muster any more offense, falling 7-2 to the Fightin Phils.
Tyler McKay (1-0, 0.00 ERA) picked up his first win of the year, pitching 2.0 perfect innings in relief while striking out two. Brain Van Belle (0-1, 5.40 ERA) was given his first loss of the season, tossing 5.0 innings, allowing three runs on three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
The Sea Dogs and Fightin Phils play the fourth game of a six-game series on Friday with a 7:00 PM first pitch. Portland sends RHP Victor Santos (5-4, 4.03 ERA) to the mound against Reading RHP Colton Eastman (0-0, 1.50 ERA).
