Reading Fightin Phils News Release
The Reading Fightin Phils fought from behind to claim a 7-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs (Red Sox) at home on Thursday. The win gives the R-Phils a 2-1 series lead.
Jack Conley had two hits, including a home run, and the first four-RBI game of the season. Josh Ockimey also tallied three RBIs and a homer in Thursday's contest. Logan O' Hoppe and Jonathan Guzman each had a hit and scored a run.
Portland scored two runs in the top of the third inning to take the early lead. Two singles with one out to put runners at the corners. When David Hamilton stole second base, Nick Sogard crossed home plate on the throw for the game's first run. Another single plated Sogard from second.
Ockimey put the R-Phils in front to stay during the bottom of the fourth inning. Vito Friscia and O'Hoppe reached base on singles and Ockimey brought them home with a three-run blast to right field.
Reading tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. Friscia led off the inning with a walk. Conley stepped to the plate and hammered a two-run shot to left field.
The Sea Dogs threatened in the top of the seventh inning. Tyler Dearden led off with a single. Kole Cottam hit a fly ball in foul territory down the right field line that turned into the first out of the inning. Hunter Markwardt tracked the ball down and made the catch as he fell over the right field gate.
The bottom of the seventh started with Guzman's single. Chris Sharpe, who pinch hit for Markwardt, took first base on a walk. Sal Gozzo was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Conley drove in his third and fourth RBIs of the night with a single to left field.
Bubby Rossman started on the mound for the Fightins. He pitched two scoreless innings and gave up two hits.
Billy Sullivan pitched the third inning. He gave up two runs on three hits while striking out two.
Tyler McKay (W, 1-0) came on for the next two innings and earned his first Double-A win of the season. He didn't give up a run or a hit and struck out two batters.
Matt Seelinger pitched two clean innings. He didn't give up a hit and struck out two runners.
McKinley Moore shut down Portland's offense in the eighth and ninth innings. He gave up one hit and finished with four strikeouts.
The Fightins will play at FirstEnergy Stadium next on June 17 at 7:00 PM.
