Sea Dogs even series with 10-3 win

(Trenton, NJ)- Portland used a six-run 7th Inning to break open a tight game and beat the Thunder, 10-3, on Thursday night in Game #2 of the Northern Division Championship Series. The series is now tied at 1-1.

The Thunder jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 2nd Inning. Omir Santos doubled with two outs to score Hideki Matsui and Felix Escalona, who both walked. Matsui went 0-for-3 with a run scored in his 2nd rehab game and is 1-for-6 in the first two games.

Portland got those runs back on a two-run homer by C George Kottaras in the 3rd Inning. Trenton jumped back in front at 3-2 in the 4th Inning as Shelley Duncan homered off Sea Dogs starter Tommy Hottovy. But Portland responded with a two-run homer by 3B Brian Myrow off Trenton starter Tyler Clippard in the 6th Inning for a 4-3 lead. Clippard (0-1) allowed four runs in six innings for the loss.

Hottovy (1-0) got the win allowing three runs in six innings and saw his teammates break the game open in the 7th Inning against the Trenton bullpen. Their first five batters reached base against Jeff Kennard, with RF Brandon Moss collecting an RBI double and DH Jeremy West adding a bases-loaded walk for a 6-3 lead. The inning was capped by a two-run double by CF Jacoby Ellsbury. Kennard allowed five runs and didn't retire a batter.

The series continues in Portland, ME on Friday at 6:00 PM. Matt Childers (3-3, 3.81) starts for Trenton against Portland's Andrew Dobies (1-2, 3.93).
