Gary Burnham named Player of the Month

Portland, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce that Reading Phillies first baseman/outfielder Gary Burnham has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for the month of August. The 5'11", 219 lb. slugger had an outstanding month for the R-Phils, hitting .406 (28-for-69) with two doubles, 10 home runs, 19 RBI, 18 runs scored, 14 walks, a .512 on-base percentage and a .870 slugging percentage in 20 games. The 31-year old reached base in all but one of the games he played in for the R-Phils last month and had multiple hits nine times during the month, including two three-hit games. Gary hit more home runs than any other player in the league during the month of August and was also ranked second in the league in batting average during that period.

Burnham, a native of South Windsor, Connecticut, became part of the Reading record books during the first game of a doubleheader at FirstEnergy Stadium against the Rock Cats on August 19th when he hit his 54th career home run as a Phillie, passing Dan Held for first place on the Reading all-time home run list. Just three days later Burnham was rewarded with a promotion to Triple-A, where he his .391 with five doubles and one home run in 10 games with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons.

Gary, who was named the Eastern League Player of the Week for the weeks ending July 16th and August 20th, was originally drafted by Philadelphia Phillies in the 22nd round of the June 1997 draft and was resigned as a free agent by the Phillies on May 24, 2006.
