Sea Dogs Drop Third Straight to SeaWolves

Portland, Maine - Stephen Scott blasted a ninth-inning solo home run and Thaddeus Ward tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in his 2022 Portland Sea Dogs (47-52, 17-13) as they fell 3-1 to the Erie SeaWolves (59-39, 20-9) on Thursday at Hadlock Field.

Ward worked through 3.2 scoreless innings, walking five and striking out two in a no-decision in his 2022 Sea Dogs debut. His counterpart, SeaWolves starter Adam Wolf, kept the Sea Dogs scoreless over his 4.0 innings of work, giving up two hits and striking out six in the process.

The first run of the game came around to score for the SeaWolves in the top of the fifth inning against Sea Dogs reliever Kyle Hart. With two outs, Andrew Navigato blasted a solo homer to left. It was his 12th of the year and gave Erie a 1-0 lead.

Erie jumped right back in the scoring column in the top of the sixth with Hart still on the mound. Quincy Nieporte led off the inning with a solo home run to left field. It was his 23rd of the season and increased the SeaWolves lead to 2-0.

The scoring resumed in the top of the ninth inning. This time it was a leadoff homer by Dane Myers, adding to Erie's lead, 3-0. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Scott battled back with a leadoff long ball of his own, scoring the only run in the Sea Dogs 3-1 loss to the SeaWolves.

Yaya Chentouf (4-2, 3.32 ERA) tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, walking two, and striking out one and picked up the win. Hart (0-1, 6.75 ERA) pitched 3.1 innings, surrendering two runs on two hits, walking one, and striking out three in his first loss of the year.

The SeaDogs and SeaWolves play the fourth game of a six-game series on Friday with first pitch a 6:00 PM. Portland sends RHP Brian Van Belle (4-2, 4.25 ERA) to the mound against Erie RHP Sawyer Gipson-Long (0-0, 0.00 ERA).
