Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Reading, PA- The Yard Goats put together a two-out five-run rally in the ninth inning, but it was not enough as the Reading Fightin Phils held on for a 12-10 victory on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The loss snapped Hartford's three-game win-streak, but the Yard Goats remained in first place as both Portland and Somerset were defeated. After trailing 11-0 in the fifth inning, the Yard Goats scored four runs, got a solo homer by Willie MacIver in the eighth and added five in the ninth and batted the tying run. However, Reading used six pitchers to hold on to the win.
Reading scored six runs in the first inning on five hits and two walks, against Yard Goats starter Tony Locey. The Fightins began the game with back-to-back doubles by Johan Rojas and Kevin Vicuna for a 1-0 lead. Wendell Rijo followed with an RBI single, Carlos DeLa Cruz had a bases loaded walk and Jack Conley contributed with a two-run double. Adrem Corredor homered in the second inning and Reading added four more runs in the third to build an 11-0 lead.
The Yard Goats scored four runs in the fifth inning off Reading reliever Jack Perkins. Kyle Datres opened the inning with a solo home run, Hunter Stovall had an RBI single and Hartford got two runs on consecutive bases loaded walks. Reading added a run in the fifth inning to make it 12-4.
Willie MacIver cranked a solo homer in the eighth inning to make it a 12-5 game. Then Hartford put a huge scare into the Phillies with a two-out rally. The Yard Goats put four straight singles together, including a two-run hit by Brenton Doyle. After Datres walked, MacIver cracked a two-RBI double to make it 12-10. Reading's closer Brian Marconi retired the final batter as the Fightins held on and won.
The Yard Goats play the third game of the six-game series on Thursday night at 7:05 PM. RHP Noah Gotsis will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Griff McGarry will start for the Fightins. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410 WPOP and FM 100.9 and on the iheart radio app. The Yard Goats return home to Dunkin Donuts Park on Tuesday, August 16th to host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
