Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves used the long ball on Thursday night at Hadlock Field as they took down the Portland Sea Dogs, 3-1, winning their third straight game. The 'Wolves have now won nine of their last 10 games.
Erie threatened early on Portland starter Thad Ward but could not convert despite the righty issuing five walks over 3.2 innings in a no-decision effort.
SeaWolves starter Adam Wolf was sharp, holding the Dogs scoreless for four innings, allowing two hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Erie struck first in the top of the fifth against Portland reliever Kyle Hart. Hart retired the first two batters of the inning before Andrew Navigato belted a solo home run over the Maine Monster in left for a 1-0 lead. The home run for Navigato was his 13th of the season.
Quincy Nieporte added to the Erie lead in the sixth when he led off and homered off of Hart, again over the Maine Monster. The home run for Nieporte was his team-leading 23rd and his second in the past two games. Nieporte now leads the Eastern League with 66 RBIs.
Three Erie relievers in Yaya Chentouf, Gerson Moreno and Zac Houston kept Portland off the scoreboard over four innings. The trio did not allow a hit.
The SeaWolves extended the lead in the top of the ninth against Portland reliever Oddanier Mosqueda when Dane Myers led off and crushed his 16th home run of the season for a 3-0 lead. The home run snapped a four-game hitless streak for Myers.
Portland got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the ninth against Bubba Derby when Stephen Scott led off with a solo home run to right. Derby would go on to get the side in order following the long ball and he struck out Hudson Potts looking to end the game. Derby is now a perfect four-for-four in save opportunities.
Chentouf (4-2) earned the win hurling two scoreless in relief of Wolf. He walked two and struck out one.
Hart (0-1) took the loss for Portland allowing two runs on two hits with a walk and three strikeouts over 3.1 innings.
