
Sea Dogs Drop Fourth Straight, Fall 5-2 to Somerset

Portland, Maine- The Portland Sea Dogs (26-28, 66-58) dropped fourth straight with 5-2 loss to the Somerset Patriots (33-21, 75-47) on Thursday night.
Corey Rosier went two-for-three after highlights by his team-leading sixth triple of the season along with his 47th stolen base. Nick Yorke hit his team-leading 23rd double of the season. Angel Bastardo pitched 6.0 innings in his second Double-A start before Christopher Troye fired 2.0 innings allowing one run while striking out three. Alex Hoppe pitched 2.0 shutout innings retiring all six batters he faced, four of which were strikeouts. He did not issue a walk.
Somerset took the 1-0 lead in the top of the first with an RBI single from Agustin Ramirez.
Portland tied the game in the bottom of the inning after a wild pitch scored Corey Rosier.
Anthony Seigler put Somerset on top 2-1 with a solo homer in the top of the second inning.
Spencer Jones hit a sacrifice fly to left field in the top of the third and the Patriots continued to lead, 3-1.
An RBI double off the bat of Caleb Durbin in the top of the fifth would score Eduardo Torrealba.
In the top of the sixth, Aaron Palensky hit a sacrifice fly to left field and the Patriots led by four.
Yorke reached with his team-leading 23rd double of the season in the bottom of the eighth before coming home to score on an RBI groundout from Blaze Jordan but the Patriots led 5-2.
Somerset starter RHP Drew Thorpe (4-0, 1.37 ERA) earned the win after pitching 5.1 innings allowing one run on three hits while walking three and striking out nine. Bailey Dees (2) was awarded the save after a shutout ninth inning. He did not issue a walk. The loss was issued to Portland starter RHP Angel Bastardo (0-1, 5.73 ERA) after pitching 5.0 innings allowing four runs on four hits while walking two and striking three.
The Sea Dogs return to Hadlock Field tomorrow, September 1st, 2023 for game four of a six-game series against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch for game four is slated for 6:00pm. Portland will start RHP Isaac Coffey (6-3, 3.51 ERA) while Somerset will give the ball to RHP Matt Sauer (3-3, 4.03 ERA).
