The Somerset Patriots won their seventh straight game on Thursday night by a final score of 5-2 over the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field in Portland, Maine.
The win improved Somerset to a season-best 28 games over .500 and a second half-best 12 games over .500 at 33-21. The Patriots have now won 15 of their last 19 games.
The seven-game win streak is tied for their longest of the season (6/8-15).
The win clinched a season series victory for the Patriots over the Sea Dogs (10-5 in 15 games vs. Portland).
RHP Drew Thorpe (5.1 IP, 1. ER, 3 H, 3 BB, 9 K) stayed undefeated for the Patriots, earning his fourth straight win in his fourth Double-A start.
Since entering the Eastern League on August 11, Thorpe leads the league with 39 K and a 0.65 WHIP. His 26.1 IP and .133 AVG rank second.
Thorpe earned his 14th total win of the season, improving to 14-2 overall, tied for the most wins of any pitcher in Minor League Baseball.
Coming out of the start, Thorpe's 177 strikeouts on the season are 19 more than any other minor league pitcher. His 135.1 IP and 0.99 WHIP rank third in MiLB, while his 2.53 ERA ranks fourth.
DH Anthony Seigler (1-for-2, RBI, R, HR, 2 BB) reached base a team-high three times and clubbed his fourth Double-A home run.
SS Caleb Durbin (1-for-3, RBI, R, 2B, HBP, 2 SB) hit safely for the ninth time in 11 games since being reinstated off the injured list.
In his 11 games since being reinstated off the IL, Durbin is slashing.341/.420/.455 with 7 SB. Durbin stole multiple bases in a game for the seventh time this season.
