Sea Dogs and United Way Announce Exciting New Partnership

SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Saint John Sea Dogs and the United Way of Greater Saint John will be entering into a multi-dimensional partnership for the upcoming hockey season.

"We're very pleased to be joining forces with the United Way this season," says Sea Dogs President Wayne Long. "Our franchise is proud to be associated with such a noble and worthwhile organization and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership."

As part of this exciting new partnership, Sea Dogs players will be participating in several United Way events throughout the coming year, including the upcoming Campaign Kickoff Luncheon (September 3) and the United Way Rat Race (September 16). Various charities supported by the United Way will also be featured at Sea Dogs home games throughout the 2009-10 season.

"Competitive spirit on the ice, community spirit off the ice - these are the hallmarks of a great team" states Ron Marcolin, Campaign Chair for The United Way of Greater Saint John. "The Sea Dogs are very much a part of the fabric of the Greater Saint John community and we are very excited to be in partnership with this great organization"

United Way in Saint John celebrates 50 years of commitment to the community this year, serving children, youth, adults, seniors and families, and persons with disabilities through vital human and social services and programs delivered through 25 member agencies and over 60 donor designated and program-funded agencies. Over $33 million has been invested into the community since 1959.

Tickets to the Campaign Kickoff Luncheon are on sale now for $10 each at the United Way office (658-1212). Tables of ten are also available.

Saint John will host Lewiston in QMJHL pre-season action later today at Harbour Station. The puck drops at 7pm as the Sea Dogs look to improve their exhibition record to 4-1 with a home victory over the MAINEiacs.
