
Scrappers Top Doubledays for Third Straight Series Win

(Niles, OH)-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers pounded out 15 hits and plated 10 runs on Friday night as they topped the Auburn Doubledays 10-7 at Eastwood Field. With the win the Scrappers win their third straight series to open the season and move to 7-1 on the year.
After both teams exchanged runs in the first inning, the Scrappers would take the lead in the bottom of the second. Jason Rodriguez walked to start the inning and moved to third on Gabriel Mejia's double. A sacrifice fly from Jose Fermin would score Rodriguez for the lead. Tyler Freeman then singled home Mejia for a 3-1 lead.
Both teams would get single runs in the third inning and Auburn would add a lone run in the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth inning the Scrappers would take control of the game. They sent all nine batters to the plate and scored five runs. The big hit was a three run homerun for Elvis Perez. Mejia added a two run double.
The Scrappers added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning thanks to an Auburn error. The Doubledays would fight back with three runs over the final two innings before Luis Araujo slammed the door shut in the ninth.
Cameron Mingo (1-0) started and earned the win in 6.0 innings of work. He allowed four earned runs on five hits. Mingo walked two and did not record a strikeout. Dakody Clemmer and Manuel Alvarez would each go an inning in relief. Araujo finished the game with 1.0 inning of work.
The Scrappers (7-1) look for the three game sweep of the Doubledays on Saturday night at 7:05. Adoni Kery will start for Mahoning Valley. Saturday is Jose Ramirez bobblehead night.
