Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, Ct. - Cam Warner broke up a scoreless streak of 20 2/3 innings for the Connecticut Tigers (2-6) with an RBI single in the eighth inning but the Brooklyn Cyclones (6-2) used six extra-base hits to quiet a big Friday night crowd at Dodd Stadium, 9-1.
Brooklyn starter Briam Campusano (Win, 1-0) tossed five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. He combined with reliever Ezequiel Zabaleta to retired 13 batters in a row.
No Tigers tallied multiple base hits on Friday. Cesar Gonzalez scored the lone run from third on Warner's eighth-inning base hit.
Following a win in his previous start against Lowell, Jose Vasquez (Loss, 1-1) gave up a two-run triple to Ross Adolph in the second and another run in the third. Vasquez, the 22-year-old righty from Venezuela, left with the bases loaded in the fourth and reliever Dylan Stock allowed two inherited runners to score.
The final line for Vasquez read 3 2/3 innings with three earned runs and six strikeouts. Drew Crosby recorded the final nine outs for Connecticut with two hits and an unearned run following an eighth-inning error in right field. The Tigers matched their single-game high this season with three defensive errors.
Adolph reached base five times during a 3-for-4 night at the plate with two runs, two triples, and four runs batted in for the McNamara Division-leading Cyclones.
Following two wins to open the season, Connecticut has dropped six games in a row to reach last place in the Stedler Division.
The Tigers will try to avoid a sweep against Brooklyn on Saturday night. Right-handed starter Gio Arriera throws the first pitch for Connecticut at 6:05 p.m. on Halfway to the Holidays Night. Dodd Stadium will become a winter wonderland and begin the official countdown to the holiday season with the first 1,000 fans through the gate receiving a Connecticut Tigers scarf.
