
Scrappers Sweep Away Black Bears

Morgantown, WV-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers completed a three game sweep of the West Virginia Black Bears on Friday night with a 6-5 win. The win extends the Scrappers winning streak to four, and pulls them within two games of the .500 mark.
For the first time in the series the Black Bears would take the lead in the second inning. Hunter Owen was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Then with two outs, Albert Baur would draw a walk to extend the inning. Nick King would then bring both runners in with a two run double and a 2-0 West Virginia lead.
The Scrappers wasted no time in tying the game up. In the top of the third inning, Mitch Longo would double to start the inning. Alexis Pantoja followed with another double to drive in Longo. Pantoja would then move to third on a sac bunt from Gabriel Mejia. Pantoja would score to tie the game 2-2 on an RBI ground out from Andrew Calica.
Mahoning Valley would take the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning. With one out Longo again would start the offense with a single. Pantoja would follow with a walk. A Mejia single would then load the bases. Calica would step to the plate and clear the bases with a three run triple to right field. A Gavin Collins RBI single would also score Calica to push the Scrappers lead to 6-2.
West Virginia would put two runs on the board in the eighth inning before almost rallying in the ninth.
In the ninth inning trailing 6-3, Arden Pabst singled to start the inning. After a fly out, King would walk. Then with two outs Clark Eagan would single to score Pabst to make it a one run game and put the tying run at third. Ping-Hsueh Chen would get Stehen Alemais to fly out to Mejia in center to end the game, stranding the tying and winning runs on base.
With the win the Scrappers complete their second three game sweep of the season, and first road sweep of the year.
Cesar Ventura started and took a no decision in 4.0 innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on two hits. Ventura walked two and struck out four. Ryan Perez (1-2) earned the win in 3.0 scoreless innings of relief. Perez allowed two runs and struck out one. Randy Valladares would then go 1.0 inning. He allowed two earned runs on one hit. Valladares walked two and struck out one. Chen (1) earned the save with 1.0 inning of work. HE allowed one earned run on two hits. Chen walked one.
The Scrappers (22-24) now head to Hudson Valley (26-20) to open a three game series with the Renegades on Saturday night at 7:05. Aaron Civale will get the start for the Scrappers. The Scrappers will return home on Tuesday night for a six game home stand.
