Scrappers Split Doubleheader with Ironbirds

(Aberdeen, MD)-The Mahoning Valley Scrappers split a pair of games with the Aberdeen Ironbirds on Saturday at Ripken Stadium. The Scrappers took game one by a final of 3-0 but dropped the nightcap to the Ironbirds, 4-2.

In game one, the Scrappers struck first in the bottom of the second inning. With two outs, Ronny Dominguez singled to left to score Jason Rodriguez and Michael Tinsley for the 2-0 lead. Mahoning Valley would add the final run of the game in the top of the sixth inning. Gianpaul Gonzalez singled to start the inning. After stealing second, Gonzalez would score on an RBI single from Jason Rodriguez.

Cameron Mingo started and took a no decision in game one. He worked 4.0 innings and struck out 3 while allowing just 3 hits. Randy Valladares (3-0) earned the win in 2.0 innings of relief. Manuel Alvarez (3) worked a 1-2-3 inning to pick up the save.

Aberdeen was able to limit the best offense in the New York Penn League in game two. The Scrappers would fall behind 2-0 before getting on the scoreboard. Tre Gantt walked and with two outs came around to score on an RBI double from Tyler Freeman.

After the Ironbirds pushed it out to a 4-1 lead, the Scrappers final run would come in the top of the fourth inning. Clark Scolamiero connected on a solo homerun for the final score of 4-2.

Luis Valdez (1-2) started and took the loss in 2 innings of work. He allowed 4 earned runs on 4 hits.

The Scrappers (25-14) will go for their eleventh series win of the season on Sunday afternoon. Alex Royalty will get the start. First pitch is set for 5:05.
