Hudson Valley Renegades News Release

WILLIAMSPORT, PA - For the fifth time in their last six games the Hudson Valley Renegades came back from a deficit as they defeated the Williamsport Crosscutters 6-4 Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark.

For the second consecutive evening it was Williamsport scoring first as they plated three runs in the second. A hit batter and two singles, one of the bunting variety, loaded the bases with no one out when Seth Lancaster roped a two-run single to left while moving the other runner to third. The next hitter, Keudy Bocio, grounded into a fielder's choice to first to score the final run and give Williamsport a 3-0 lead.

Things stayed that way until the sixth when the Renegades used a big four-run inning to take the lead. There were two outs and a runner at first when second baseman Tyler Frank singled to right and designated hitter Erik Ostberg walked to load the bases. First baseman Jacson McGowan proceeded to follow with a bases-clearing triple to center to tie the game at three. The next hitter, first baseman Marvin Malone, drove McGowan in by reaching on an infield single to the pitcher as Hudson Valley took a 4-3 lead.

The Renegades added two much-needed insurance runs in the seventh. Second baseman Justin Bridgman stood at second with one out when centerfielder Michael Smith laid a bunt down. Crosscutters catcher Rafael Marchan threw the ball past first for an error as Bridgman scored on the play. Back-to-back wild pitches by Williamsport reliever Abdallah Aris immediately followed to put Smith at third before centerfielder Tanner Dodson looped an RBI single to center to up Hudson Valley's lead to 6-3.

Williamsport tried to make a comeback in the eighth by putting runners to first and second with one away. However, reliever Trey Cumbie recorded back-to-back strikeouts of Madison Stokes and Edwin Rodriguez to preserve the lead.

In the ninth, the Crosscutters again got runners to first and second; this time with two away. Ben Aklinski smacked an RBI single to center off Cumbie to pull the Crosscutters to within two. Cumbie, though, was lifted for closer Simon Rosenblum-Larson who proceeded to get a fly out to left from Jonathan Guzman to end the game.

The Renegades had 10 hits in the game, including two each by Frank and Malone. Frank scored a run, while Malone drove one in. The Crosscutters finished with eight hits; two by third-baseman Matt Kroon who also scored two runs.

The win went to reliever Miller Hogan (2-0) for Hudson Valley as the right-hander struck out three over three scoreless innings while allowing only one hit. The loss fell to Williamsport relief man Robinson Martinez (0-1) who allowed four earned runs on three hits over 1.2 frames. The save by Rosenblum-Larson was his fifth of the year.

The Renegades will go for the sweep tomorrow as they take on the Crosscutters in the finale of their three-game series beginning at 5:05. Righty Nick Lee (1-0, 2.57 ERA) will make his first start for Hudson Valley against fellow righty James McArthur (1-0, 1.38 ERA) for the Crosscutters.

The Renegades return home on Monday, July 30th when they open a three-game series and homestand against the Lowell Spinners beginning at 7:05. Tickets can be purchased online at hvrenegades.com or by calling the ticket office at 845-838-0094.
