Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release
Niles, OH -The Mahoning Valley Scrappers put on an offensive fireworks show Wednesday night, defeating the Jamestown Jammers 11-6 to end their five game losing streak.
The Scrappers plated two runs in the first inning off Jammers starter Alejandro Sanabia. They went up 7-1 after two innings thanks to a five run second. Two walks, a hit batter, an error, and a pair of hits did the damage. The big knock was Jansy Infante's two-run double.
The Jammers came back with two runs in the third to make it 7-3 only to see Mahoning Valley take the runs back. In the bottom of the frame Juan Valdes launched a two-run homerun over the batting cage in right field and into the players' parking lot to give the Scrappers a 9-3 lead.
More on-field fireworks exploded in the bottom of the fifth when Jamestown reliever Andy Jackson was ejected for hitting Valdez with a pitch. Both benches were warned and no other ejections were made during the game.
Infante paced the Scrappers 12 hit attack with a 5-5 night. Valdes was 2-2 with four runs scored and 3 RBI. Matt Brown added two his in five at-bats.
Sanabia suffered the loss for the Jammers, allowing nine runs (six earned) on eight hits in 2.2 innings. He walked three and hit a batter. Coming into the game Sanabia had allowed just two runs and one walk with seventeen strikeouts in 12.1 innings.
The Scrappers are now 7-9 on the season. Jamestown is 5-11. They will play again Thursday night at 7:05 pm. Mike Eisenberg (1-1, 3.38) will start on the mound for Mahoning Valley.
