Brooklyn Cyclones News Release

The Brooklyn Cyclones defeated their cross-river rivals, the Staten Island Yankees, by the score of 5-2 on Thursday night.

The game got underway after an hour and a half rain delay, and the two teams locked up in a classic pitchers duel. Zach McAllister of the Yankees pitched five innings, only allowing one run, but was matched frame for frame by the Cyclones' Nick Waechter, who allowed one run in six innings.

The Cyclones scored both of their first two runs due to the help of first baseman Jason Jacobs. Jacobs hit a solo home run over the left field wall to get the Cyclones on the board in the second inning. He later knocked in the second run for the Cyclones with a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed J.R. Voyles to score from third base.

The Yankees tied the game in the eighth inning, though, when Luis Nunez hit a solo home run of his own.

The Cyclones, though, were quick to respond when Jake Eigsti battled out a bases-loaded walk in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead for good. Following Eigsti, Brandon Kawal came to the plate as a pinch hitter with the bases loaded and hit a single up the middle to add two more runs and give the Cyclones pitching staff some insurance. Dan McDonald came in and pitched a scoreless ninth inning to solidify the victory for Brooklyn.

The Cyclones travel to Staten Island on Friday, before returning home on Saturday to take on the Jamestown Jammers. On Saturday, the first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive a Souvenir Baseball.
