
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Claims Fifth Division Title in Six Years

Moosic, PA - After a one season absence, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees punched their ticket to the International League 2012 post season with a 5-4, 13 inning win on Monday night over the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. The Yankees clinched the International League North Division crown on Thursday night with a 5-0 win over the Iron Pigs in SWB's final "home" game of the season. The Yankees have won the IL's North Division for the fifth time in the last six seasons.
The Yankee are still awaiting their opening round opponent in the Governors' Cup Playoffs with the Wild Card winner in the International League up for grabs. Entering play on Thursday, Pawtucket led the Wild Card chase with a 1.5 game lead over second place Lehigh Valley. Three other teams; Columbus (4.5 games behind), Norfolk (5.5 games behind) and Rochester (5.5 games behind) were still mathematically alive in the race.
Regardless of the opponent, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre will open the 2012 Governors' Cup Playoffs on the road at the Wild Card winner beginning on Wednesday, September 5th with times to be announced by the Wild Card winning team.
All Yankees home playoff games will take place at Frontier Field in Rochester, New York with the opening round games for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre taking place on September 7th, and if necessary September 8th and 9th. Games on the 7th and 8th will begin at 7:05 PM and Sunday, September 9th will be a 6:05 PM first pitch.
Should the team advance to the Governors' Cup Championship Round, games will again be played at Frontier Field in Rochester with 7:05 PM first pitches on Tuesday, September 11th and Wednesday, September 12th.
