Gwinnett Stripers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Gwinnett Braves concluded their 2012 home schedule with a pair of one-run losses to the Pawtucket Red Sox, losing 1-0 and 3-2 on Thursday night at Coolray Field. A total of 5,768 fans came out for "Fan Appreciation Night" to watch stellar pitching performances by Randall Delgado and Julio Teheran, each who took tough-luck losses for the G-Braves.

With the doubleheader sweep, the PawSox now have a 3.0 game lead for the International League Wild Card with four games remaining.

Delgado (L, 4-3) made the start in the first game of the doubleheader and was impressive, working 7.0 innings of one-run ball in a complete game loss. The right-hander yielded seven hits to Pawtucket, striking out five while walking one.

Jeremy Hazelbaker's one-out RBI sacrifice fly to right field scored Jason Repko in the fifth inning for the lone score of the first game.

Billy Buckner (W, 8-6) went 7.0 innings as well for the PawSox, earning the complete game win. The right-hander was untouchable, surrendering no runs on just four hits alongside three strikeouts and two walks.

Luis Durango led the way for the G-Braves, going 2-for-2 as part of the G-Braves' four-hit effort.

In the second game, the G-Braves took a 1-0 lead in the third inning against Pawtucket right-hander Tony Pena, Jr. Brian Friday reached on a throwing error by shortstop Ivan DeJesus and scored on a two-out double by Felix Pie.

That lead would last until the fifth inning as Teheran yielded a pair of runs in the frame. Nate Spears walked and Dan Butler singled to start the inning, and a sacrifice bunt by Ryan Dent led to a throwing error by Teheran to score both Spears and Butler. Teheran recovered to end the inning, but Pawtucket exited with a 2-1 lead.

The PawSox' advantage grew to 3-1 as Dent added an RBI double scoring Butler in the seventh inning. Teheran (L, 7-9) exited with three runs, two earned on seven hits over 6.1 innings, as well as two walks and six strikeouts. Andy Russell struck out both batters he faced in relief of the Gwinnett starter.

Pena, Jr. allowed an unearned run over 4.0 innings and Jose De La Torre (W, 2-0) added 2.0 scoreless innings in relief. Chris Carpenter (S, 4) served up an RBI groundout to J.C. Boscan that cut the Gwinnett deficit to 3-2 in the seventh, but he'd finish the game with a strike three called to Friday, stranding the tying run.

The G-Braves had just five hits in the second game, with Pie going 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Butler led the way for the PawSox in the second game, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

The Gwinnett Braves (61-79) conclude the 2012 season with a four-game road series against the Norfolk Tides (71-69). The series begins on Friday night at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA with a 7:15 PM first pitch.
