(Pawtucket, RI) - Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Jaron Long combined with two relievers on a four-hitter to lead the RailRiders to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Pawtucket Red Sox in the opener of a three-game series on Monday evening in front of 6,145 fans at McCoy Stadium.

Long (3-3) kept the PawSox bats quiet for most of the night, tossing 7.2 scoreless innings in which he allowed only three hits and three walks. The right-hander retired the first nine batters he faced and did not allow his first hit until one out in the fifth inning.

Pawtucket starter Henry Owens (2-3) allowed only one run in six full innings of work, coming on a two-out RBI single in the second from the RailRiders' Pawtucket-born centerfielder Mason Williams. Owens was reached for four hits and four walks while striking out four.

Reliever Miguel Celestino hit Tyler Austin, the first batter he faced, in the seventh which led to Scranton's second run scoring two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Nick Noonan. Celestino worked two innings and allowed one run and only one hit, while Dana Eveland stranded the bases loaded in the ninth for his 12th-consecutive scoreless appearance.

After Long was lifted with two outs in the eighth inning, Scranton reliever Tyler Webb struck out the only batter he faced, Jackie Bradley, Jr., to end the inning with a runner on first. Closer Jose Ramirez worked around a one-out single by Allen Craig in the ninth to record his sixth save.

Deven Marrero, Craig, Travis Shaw (bunt) and Mike Miller each collected one of the PawSox' four hits, while Ben Gamel had a pair of the RailRiders' seven knocks on the night.

Game two of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night with first pitch at 7:05pm. Right-hander Jess Todd (1-0, 3.86) is expected to start for the PawSox while the RailRiders counter with righty Joel De La Cruz (3-0, 3.42).
