Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -The Charlotte Knights will hold the first of three Military Appreciation games of the 2015 season tonight (Memorial Day, Monday, May 25) at BB&T Ballpark. All veteran and active Military members are welcome to come out for a great night of baseball as the Knights plan to honor those who have served, or are serving in the armed forces.
Gates will open at 6:00 p.m. tonight and first pitch between the Charlotte Knights and the Columbus Clippers (Triple-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians) is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Before tonight's game, the Knights will welcome a Military member from past wars on the field to throw out a ceremonial first pitch.
Here is a list of veterans who will throw out a ceremonial first pitch tonight at BB&T Ballpark:
- Colonel Joe Shelton, World War II & Korean War
- Major General David Richwine, Grenada and Panama
- Captain Garrett Garland, Vietnam War
- John Gallina, Iraq
The entire night will have a Military theme and fans coming out to the game are encouraged to tweet a photo of a loved one who has served, or is serving in the Military to @KnightsBaseball on Twitter by using the hashtag #MilitaryKnights. The photos may be featured on the BB&T Ballpark videoboard throughout the game.
As part of the Military-themed game, all Knights players will wear special Military jerseys for all three games this season (May 25, July 3, and August 9). A jersey auction, which will take place online at charlotteknights.com, will start after the August 9th game. Fans can bid on the game-worn, autographed jerseys and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the USO of NC.
Tonight's game also features $1 hot dogs, courtesy of Sahlen's. Single-game tickets for this game, as well as all other games this season, are available by phone at 704-274-8282, online at www.charlotteknights.com, or in person at the BB&T Ballpark Ticket Office.
