Scott Hat Trick Leads T-Birds To Win

Prince George, BC, March 5, 2008 - Greg Scott had a natural hat trick Wednesday night at CN Centre to lead the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 5-2 victory over the Prince George Cougars.

Scott scored all three of his goals in the second period and all in a row, giving him the natural hat trick.

It was the second game of a two-game series in Prince George. The T-Birds won the first game, 5-1, on Tuesday night at the CN Centre. Seattle also swept the four-game season series. The T-Birds improved to 38-21-5-2 and remain in fourth place in the Western Conference standings. They are four points ahead of the fifth place Everett Silvertips and five points ahead of the sixth place Kelowna Rockets. The top four teams in the conference get home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

Justin Maylan put Prince George (18-45-1-3) up 1-0 at 11:55 of the first period. Jordie Deagle and Cody Hobbs had the assists.

Seattle tied the game 1-1 when Bud Holloway converted on a two-on- one with Jeremy Schappert at 15:12 of the first. Schappert got to a loose puck in the Seattle zone and skated hard up the left side. Holloway joined him on the rush and Schappert made a pass across the high slot to Holloway. Holloway beat Prince George goalie Real Cyr over the glove from the right face-off dot for 36th goal of the year.

Seattle outshot Prince George 10-6 in the first period.

Scott gave the T-Birds a 2-1 lead with a power-play goal at 3:39 of the second period. Lindsay Nielsen dug the puck out of the left corner and fed Thomas Hickey at the left point. Hickey put a slap shot on goal with Scott in front of the Prince George net. Scott redirected Hickey's shot through Cyr's legs for his 35th goal of the year.

Scott tied Holloway for the team lead in goals when he scored at 8:57 of the second to give the T-Birds a 3-1 lead. Holloway fed the puck to Hickey and he brought into the Prince George zone. Hickey skated in the slot and dropped the puck to Scott trailing the play on the right. Scott beat Cyr with a quick wrist shot over his glove. Scott got his third goal of the second period at 14:59 on a four-on-three power play to give Seattle a 4-1 lead. Hickey and Holloway passed the puck back and forth just inside the Prince George blue line. Hickey put a slap shot on goal from the high slot. The shot rebounded off the boards behind the Cougars net to Scott to the right of the goal. Scott tapped the puck past Cyr to take the team lead in goals.

Brenden Silvester scored at 17:54 of the second to put the T-Birds in front 5-1. Jeremy Boyer had the puck on the left boards and centered the puck to Silvester coming down the slot. Silvester beat Cyr high for his second goal of the year. Sena Acolatse had the second assist on the goal.

The T-Birds outshot the Cougars 17-4 in the second period and led 27-10 in total shots after two periods.

Alex Poulter scored a four-on-three power-play goal at 5:01 of the third period to get the Cougars second goal of the night. Calvin Sagert and Art Bidlevskii had the assists.

The Cougars outshot the T-Birds 14-6 in the third period but Seattle finished with a 33-24 advantage in total shots.

Seattle goalie Riku Helenius made 22 saves on 24 shots and improved his record to 19-11-5-1.

Cyr stopped 28 of 33 shots and his record is now 11- 28-1-2.

The T-Birds travel to Vancouver to take on the Giants at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7. They are in Portland on Saturday, March 8, to face the Winter Hawks at 7 p.m. before coming home to KeyArena to play the Spokane Chiefs on Sunday, March 9, at 5:05 p.m.
