New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Three goals in the third period gave the Scorpions a 5-2 victory over Odessa on Tuesday night. The win officially clinched a playoff spot for New Mexico.
The game was very physical in the first period. Konrad Reeder put the Scorpions in front with his 29th goal of the season at the 10:19 mark. With less than a minute remaining Odessa tied the game when Sebastien Thinel tipped in his 28th goal of the season.
Each team tacked on a power play goal in the second period. Dylan Row notched his first goal in a Scorpions jersey into the second period. Odessa answered, just as they did in the opening period, when Mario Joly's slap shot found the back of the net.
New Mexico came out in the third period and put the pedal to the medal. Reeder scored his second goal of the contest, the eventual game winner 5:46 into the final frame. Dominic Osman gave his team some breathing room with his first goal of the game at the 15:02 mark. Osman then finished the night's scoring with an empty net goal late in the third period.
The Scorpions will head to the playoffs for the second consecutive season. It is only the second in franchise history that feat has been accomplished (1996-97, 1997-98). New Mexico now sits only one point behind Arizona and two points behind Odessa in the Southwest division.
New Mexico heads to the road for the next six games. The 3,633 mile journey begins in Amarillo on Friday night. The puck drops at 6:05 p.m. and can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal or seen for free on the CHL Network.
