Bossier-Shreveport's John Decaro Named Sher-Wood/Central Hockey League Goaltender Of The Month

March 4, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League announced today that John DeCaro of the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs has been named the Sher-Wood/Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Month for the month of February/2008. This marks the second time this season that DeCaro has won the award (November) and the fourth straight month that a Mudbugs goaltender has been honored (Ken Carroll won in December and January). DeCaro will receive a custom leather jacket from Sher-Wood, the official stick, glove, pant and protective equipment supplier to the CHL to recognize his accomplishment.

DeCaro went 8-1-0 during the month with a 1.45 goals against average and a .939 save percentage. The Marysville, Washington native has re-written the CHL record book this season setting the single-season mark with 10 shutouts and combining with Carroll for a CHL record 16 team shutouts. The second-year pro is within reach of setting the single season records with his 1.64 goals against average (record is 1.80 set during 2004-05 season by Colorado's Tyler Weiman) and his .942 save percentage (record is .938 set by Weiman during the same season).

The 6-3, 217-pound goaltender has gone 23-2-2 since his 0-3-1 start. The Mudbugs are the top team in the CHL with a 40-10-5 record and are eight points better than the next closets team (Laredo) in the chase for the Governors' Cup (CHL regular season champs). DeCaro was named the CHL's Most Outstanding Goaltender last season and is 46-12-7 with a 1.93 goals against average in his time with the Bugs.

Other goaltenders receiving consideration for the monthly award for January include Austin's Miguel Beaudry, Colorado's Sebastien Laplante, Laredo's Dustin Traylen, New Mexico's Mike Minard, Odessa's Alexandre Vincent, Oklahoma City's Sean Connors and Texas' David Cacciola and Brett Jaeger.
