Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage defeated the Arizona Sundogs 5-4 in overtime Tuesday night at the Broomfield Event Center putting the Rage back into a first place Northwest Division tie with the Colorado Eagles. It was the fourth of six games between the two teams that have gone into overtime this season. The Rage also snapped a four-game winless streak in the season series against the Sundogs.

From a quick wrist shot, Rocky Mountain's Brent Cullaton earned the early advantage at 3:28 with the team's first shot on goal. Fans saw end-to-end action with few penalties and few whistles between plays throughout much of the period. At the 14 minute mark, an Arizona defender turned over the puck behind his own net with pressure by Rocky Mountain's Colt King. David Morelli passed the puck to Jeremy Garrison who scored his first goal with the Rage this season and put the Rage up 2-0 going into intermission. The Rage closed out the period outshooting the Sundogs 16-4.

In the second period, the Rage had just killed off a Sundogs powerplay when Ladislav Kouba skated down the far outside right wing and made a pass to Trevor Weisgerber who chipped it in net from just in front of the goal line at 6:35.

The Sundogs answered back with two goals by Cory Urquhart. At 10:23 Urquhart faked a shot on the glove side of Rage goaltender Scott Reid before making a move to the opposite side of the crease and shoving the puck in net. At 16:42, Urquhart fired a slap shot that hit the left pad of Reid and bounced up and over the goal line bringing the Sundogs within one goal.

In the last minute of the period, Kouba picked up an Arizona turnover at center ice and passed it forward to Nathan Rosychuk. Rosychuk skated down the right wing and waited in front of Arizona goaltender Robert McVicar, then passed the puck back to Kouba for a quick wrist shot in net at 19:34. The Rage once again kept the Sundogs to single digits, outshooting Arizona 29-9 by the end of the second period.

The Sundogs fought back again in the third period. Reid came out of net in front of the crease. Urquhart got to the puck first passing it to Jason Visser who shot it in net at 5:46 as a Rage defender dove behind Reid attempting to block. At the 12:33 mark. Arizona's Alex Leavitt added the game tying goal with a long wrist shot from the left wing. Neither team scored again as time ran out in regulation.

At 2:34 in overtime, defenseman Clay Plume came up big for the Rocky Mountain Rage scoring with a wrist shot over the right shoulder of McVicar for the win.

The Rage advanced to 34-16-5 (73 points). The Sundogs also earned one point in their overtime loss advancing to 30-19-6 (66 points) for second place in the Southwest Division. The Sundogs have already clinched a playoff spot in the Southern Conference. The Rage currently sits in second place with the Eagles in a tight Northern Conference race for playoff births.
