Scorpions Add More Pop to Home Schedule

June 10, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Yuma Scorpions News Release

We just wanted to update you on a few things we're adding to our season as we progress through the first half of the 2010 season. As you know from earlier e-mails, the Scorpions are putting on the FIRST fireworks show of the Fourth of July Weekend this year. Our July 2 show, presented by Coca Cola and Rx Positive, is THE place to be for families this year. As you may have heard, the Yuma County Fairgrounds has cancelled their annual Fourth of July event, which leaves a pretty big hole for families looking to get out and see a great fireworks show. We made the decision early on to have our show be the first of the holiday weekend in Yuma, so we hope you'll bring the family out on July 2 to Desert Sun as we take on the Tucson Toros in a battle for first place in the South Division. You'll see some great baseball, and afterwards get great seats for the very first fireworks show of the weekend.

In addition, the Arizona Army National Guard will be on hand that night with the #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr. National Guard Chevrolet Impala on display. You can get your picture taken with the car, get up close to a real NASCAR vehicle, and still enjoy the game and fireworks. Our friends at the National Guard tell us that Dale Jr. is by far the most popular driver on the NASCAR circuit, accounting for more than 40 percent of all merchandise sold last year. So the chance to actually see his car here in Yuma is a rare treat for all race fans and their families. The Arizona Army National Guard will also be giving away t-shirts and other goodies.

The staff here at the Scorpions is packing as much as we can into your Fourth of July Weekend celebration, so come on out and take advantage!

We are getting great response on our fundraising program as well, and we thank you for the opportunity to become more involved with OUR community by helping your group raise funds. Since our last letter to you, we've brought aboard great organizations like the Salvation Army/Boys & Girls Club, Habitat for Humanity, Crossroads Mission, the ThunderCats Softball Team, and a number of local church groups that see the ease and benefit of using the Scorpions to raise funds for their groups. As always, there's room for everyone, so please feel free to call us at 257-4700 to find out how your group can benefit as well.

Another part of the schedule that's really taking off is our two Faith Night concerts. The first, scheduled for Saturday, July 10, has already seen a number of church groups sign up to sell tickets in their own fundraising efforts. We'll have three bands - one playing before the game and two playing after - so there will be something for everyone during the night. Game time is 6 p.m., and we'll take on our North Division rivals, the Chico Outlaws. The second Faith Night event is scheduled for Saturday, August 7 as we take on the Tijuana Cimarrones.

As always, thank you all so much for being a Scorpions fan. Having a first place team, a building base of community support and a tremendous family atmosphere make Desert Sun Stadium THE place to be this summer. We hope you'll come out and join us as we move toward better things here in Yuma!
