June 10, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Chico Outlaws News Release

(Chico, CA. June 10th, 2010) Kris Honel got the start on Thursday night at Nettleton Stadium for the Outlaws with a 3-0 record and looking for more. Perhaps it was the Tucson Toros who got more, as in strikeouts, as Honel struck out 12 Toros hitters enroute to his fourth win of the year after starting out the game with five and two-thirds hitless innings.

Honel did not allow a hit until two outs in the top of the sixth inning when Tucson center fielder Josh Womack hit a single up the middle.

As per the modus operandi of the Outlaws when Honel is pitching, he got plenty of run support.

The hit parade for the Outlaws started in the bottom of the third inning when with one out, Blake Gailen walked. Bobby Hill then singled. With JJ Sherrill up at the plate, Gailen and Hill executed a double-steal to put runners at second and third. Sherrill then delivered a two-RBI double to make the score 2-0. One batter later, Mike Rose extended his hit streak to eight games with an RBI single, making the score 3-0. Ismael Castro also extended his 10-game hit streak to 11 with a single in the third.

The Outlaws put up another crooked number in the fifth inning. Five consecutive base hits off Tucson starter Matt Lincoln (0-2) resulted in four runs in the frame and a 7-0 lead. With one out, Mikael Jova and Mike Rose singled, bringing up Castro, who hit an RBI single to score Jova. Rich Janeway followed that up with a two RBI double, driving in Rose and Castro. Shortstop Alex Prieto put the final tally in the inning on the board with an RBI single to plate Janeway.

The Toros got to Honel finally in the sixth inning with two outs when Womack singled. Jose Valdez's shot down to first baseman Rich Janeway was mishandled and put two runners on base. Former Outlaw Lino Garcia then smacked an RBI single to drive in Womack and make the score 7-1.

In the seventh, Tucson led off the inning with a Wally Backman single. Two batters later, Luis Apodaca's grounder to short was ruled an error, scoring Backman for the second run of the night for the Toros.

With four more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Outlaws put the game away. Catcher Mike Rose hit a solo home run, his sixth of the year and second in two games, to make the score 8-2. After a walk to Janeway with one out, Prieto singled. Rookie Pascual Del Real came in to pinch hit for Honel and promptly hit a shot to the right field gap for a double, scoring Janeway for a 9-2 lead. Blake Gailen then hit the Outlaws fourth double of the night, driving in Prieto and Del Real to make it 11-2.

Justin Segal pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Kris Honel.

With the win, the Outlaws win the series against Tucson 2-1 and improved to 14-4 on the year, while the Toros drop to 9-10.

Garret Holleran (2-1) starts on Friday night for the Outlaws against the GBL South's best team, the Yuma Scorpions, at 7:05 pm at the Nett.
