Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WOODBRIDGE, VA (MAY 12, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash have now lost three straight after getting one-hit by Potomac's Blake Schwartz in a 7-1 loss to the Nationals at Pftizner Stadium in a seven-inning contest Sunday afternoon.
For the second straight game, the Dash (16-19) scored first. Schwartz (3-1) walked the first two he faced, and a double steal put two in scoring position with Chris Curley at the plate. The shortstop gave Winston-Salem the lead on a groundout for his 21st RBI of the season.
Despite that first inning run, the Dash did not have their first hit of the game until the fifth inning against Schwartz. David Herbek lined a two-out single up the middle to pick up Winston's only hit on the afternoon. Sunday marked the first time in the Dash era (2009-present) that Winston-Salem mustered only one hit in a game.
Dash starter Jason Van Skike (2-1) struggled with his control in his second career minor league start. The right-hander walked the bases loaded in the first, and the Nationals (20-16) took the lead for good thanks to three consecutive run-producing singles.
Van Skike was removed from the game after one inning, giving way to southpaw Jarrett Casey. Casey kept the Nationals off the board in the second but gave up a pair of tallies in the third when Adrian Sanchez notched a two-run single.
Potomac's onslaught continued in the fourth against Brandon Hardin, who surrendered a pair of runs. Cody Winiarski followed with a pair of scoreless innings out of the 'pen.
The Dash and Nationals wrap up this four-game series on Monday night at Pfitzner Stadium. Winston-Salem will send right-hander Bryan Blough (1-4, 6.94 ERA) to the mound, and Potomac will counter with southpaw Robbie Ray (3-1, 2.08 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:50 on wsdash.com/broadcast with the Pregame Dash, and first pitch is set for 7:05.
The Dash expect to reach their one millionth fan at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, May 16. On the night the Dash reach this milestone, one lucky fan will have be given a chance to win one million dollars. Visit wsdash.com to purchase tickets for this historic event.
