Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WOODBRIDGE, VA (MAY 12, 2013) - The Winston-Salem Dash and Potomac Nationals completed their suspended game from Saturday night with the Nationals taking it 7-1 at Pfitzner Stadium. After four innings, the game was delayed for 85 minutes due to rain before umpires Dan Merzel and Brian Miller officially suspended the game until Sunday afternoon.
Play resumed with the Nationals (19-16) leading 4-1 through four completed innings. Neither team could get anything going at the plate until the bottom of the seventh. With two outs, Terance Marin gave up a pair of singles ahead of a Kevin Keyes' home run that put Potomac's lead out of reach.
Potomac pitching picked up where starter Taylor Hill left off Saturday night. Tyler Herron (1-1) was the first pitcher of the day for the Nationals, and he held Winston-Salem (16-18) to just one hit in his three scoreless innings.
Herron gave way to Greg Holt, who walked the bases loaded in the ninth and allowed the Dash to get their final tally of the game when Adam Heisler picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice.
Back on Saturday night, Winston-Salem starter Chris Beck (2-5) was in and out of trouble through the first three innings but did not allow a hit until the fourth. It was in that fourth frame that Potomac grabbed the lead.
With one out, Adrian Nieto got the Nationals' first hit of the game with a double. One out later, Potomac tied things up an on an RBI single from Caleb Ramsey. Justin Miller gave the Nationals the lead one batter later with a two-run homer, and the scoring was capped off by a run-producing double off the bat of Billy Burns.
It was the Dash who opened the contest's scoring in the second inning. David Herbek hit an infield single with two down, and Mark Haddow hustled all the way from second base to give Winston-Salem the early edge.
The Dash and Nationals will now play Sunday afternoon's scheduled contest with Winston-Salem right-hander Jason Van Skike (2-0, 0.60 ERA) facing off against Potomac righty Blake Schwartz (2-1, 0.60 ERA). First pitch is expected shortly after 1:30 p.m. The four-game set wraps up on Monday night with first pitch set for 7:05.
The Dash expect to reach their one millionth fan at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, May 16. On the night the Dash reach this milestone, one lucky fan will have be given a chance to win one million dollars. Visit wsdash.com to purchase tickets for this historic event.
