Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans (23-13) won their sixth straight game Sunday, topping the Salem Red Sox 4-3 at TicketReturn.com Field. Drew Robinson, who hit the game-winner Saturday, smashed a go-ahead, two-run triple in the seventh inning to give the Birds their first lead of the game.

Right-hander Alec Asher (3-2) earned the win, allowing three earned runs on six hits over seven strong innings. Francisco Mendoza worked two scoreless innings to notch his first save since the 2011 season. With the potential tying run in scoring position, Mendoza helped turn a 1-6-3 double play to end the game. The Red Sox did not plate a run after the fifth inning.

The Red Sox took the early lead in the first inning on a two-run home run from Keury De La Cruz. It was the cleanup hitter's first hit of the series.

Jake Skole and Edwin Garcia each tallied two-out, RBI singles in the fourth inning to tie the game. A half-inning later, the Red Sox retook the lead on an opposite field, solo home run from Garin Cecchini.

The Red Sox had runners at second and third with one out in the second inning but did not plate a run. Sean Coyle hit a ground ball back to Asher which turned into a 1-3-2-5-2-6 double play to end the inning. Henry Ramos was the runner caught between third and home.

Royce Bolinger, Edwin Garcia and Robinson each recorded a pair of hits.

The Pelicans overcame a 4-0 deficit to win Saturday, and erased a two-run hole to earn the Mother's Day win.

The Pelicans have the best record in the Carolina League and sit 6.5 games up in the southern division.

The Pelicans wrap up a four-game series Monday with the Salem Red Sox. Right-hander Nick Martinez (3-2, 2.41) will be opposed by right-hander Michael McCarthy (2-1, 3.49). First pitch at TicketReturn.com Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EST.
