Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Tuesday, the Rapid City Rush and Arizona Sundogs met in the final preseason game before the start of the 2011-12 Central Hockey League regular season. Both offenses were on display, combining for eleven goals on the night, but it was the Rush who prevailed in overtime. Notching the overtime game-winner was Rapid City's veteran sniper, Jesse Schultz who lit the lamp with just 46 seconds left in the extra frame. The Rush now hit the road for their first regular season game set for Friday at 6:05pm MST. The game can be heard live on Rush flagship station, 100.3 the FOX.

Tuesday's opening period picked up right where Monday's third frame left off, with both sides combining for six goals in the first 20 minutes. The initial goal of the game was picked up by newcomer Colin Circelli who finished a Joe Grimaldi shot on net by circling the net and wrapping it home at 5:17. Later, while on the powerplay, Colin Circelli snapped a saucer pass from the right faceoff dot to far post where Konrad Reeder finished the play on a second effort. Exactly one minute later, at the midway point of the stanza, David Nimmo got the Sundogs on the board when he fired a wrist shot to the top-right corner, cutting the lead in half. The Rush regained the two-goal advantage with another powerplay tally, this one coming when Jesse Schultz set up Shawn Limpright at the point, and the veteran blasted a slapshot to the top-left corner. With less than five minutes remaining in the opening frame, the Sundogs made it a one-goal game after Kyle Hood capitalized on a scrum at the front of the Rush net. However, the Rush would notch the final marker of the period, a powerplay goal from defenseman Carl Hudson who collected his second of the preseason, giving Rapid City a 4-2 lead heading into the first intermission.

The middle frame saw both offenses go dormant, but the intensity picked up as the period featured a combined 34 penalty minutes, including three fights.

Arizona came out red-hot in the third period, netting a pair of goals to tie the contest less than six minutes in. The first goal came from team captain Tyler Butler who collected a loose puck in the left-side of the slot and blasted it home for his first point of the preseason just 1:28 in. Then, David Nimmo collected his second powerplay goal of the night, evening the game at 4-4. With under five minutes left in regulation, Konrad Reeder earned his second of the night and what seemed to be the eventual game-winner on a strong individual effort that started in his own zone. However, the Sundogs had different plans as Jean-Philipp Chabot forced overtime with a tally at 16:55.

In overtime, the Rush drew a minor penalty that put them on the man-advantage for the sixth time. Once again, the powerplay was up to task. This time, it was Jesse Schultz who cradled a pass from veteran Shawn Limpright and sent home the game-winner from the left circle with just 46 seconds remaining on the board.

Arizona's powerplay had a strong showing with a 2-for-4 effort. Nevertheless it was Rapid City who won the special teams battle, going 4-for-6 on the night.

Rush netminder Tim Boron turned away 37 shots in the win, while Levente Szuper was dealt a loss despite stopping 32 attempts.

The Rush now take on the Wichita Thunder this Friday, October 21st at 6:05pm MST. Fans can hear live play-by-play coverage starting at 5:35pm on Rush flagship station 100.3 the FOX.
